Guests at Riverside
Lodge can spend many hours enjoying the cultural opportunities in the
community. There are several buildings furnished with period pieces at
the Grand Encampment Museum. The research center can keep one occupied for
days looking over the early Western history of the Encampment and Riverside
community.

Encampment has a
Mayor/Council system of Government. The Council meets regularly the
Historic City Hall. The Hall contains a small auditorium and stage for
performances of Melodramas and for meetings. The auditorium/hall has
great acoustics! A local performers' club offers performances at
community celebrations, some times with a dinner theater. |
 |
The City Hall Bell Tower waits for
the bell to toll, but sadly, the bell has been removed and access blocked.
The City Hall has hosted dances, parties, weddings, programs, funerals and
town meetings over the years. |
 |
Encampment and
Riverside grew into cities because of copper mining activities in the Sierra
Madre Mountains. There was a tramway from the mines to the smelter in
Riverside. Some of the original tram towers and ore carts are on
display at the Grand Encampment Museum. |
 |
The Grand View Park extends on behind the
grounds of the Grand Encampment Museum. Open area invites a ball game
or outdoor concert before the sweetheart pavilion. |
| |
 |
Grand Encampment Museum has a fine
research area that houses a large part of the extensive collection of
pioneer gear, newspapers, research books, photos and other media. |

The covered wagon stands majestically behind
the graceful memorial fountain near the research center for the museum. |

Enjoy a quiet moment
in the gazebo at the Japanese Park just on the other side of the Grand View
Park. |
